Using AI to generate attractive, risk-adjusted returns
Jonathan Briggs, Chief Investment Officer, leads an investment team of 9 professionals. He joined Oracle Alpha after a 10-year career at CPP Investments, during which time he founded the Alpha Generation Lab with a mandate for researching and investing in transformational alpha strategies across any asset class.
At CPP Investments, he also functioned as the Head of Research for the Quantitative Equity business and prior to that as the Head of Implementation Research for the Quantitative Macro business. Jonathan joined CPP Investments from Barclays Global Investors, a $1.5 trillion investment firm in the forefront of systematic investing that was acquired by BlackRock. His academic training includes an undergraduate degree in Engineering and Applied Science from Caltech, a Masters in Engineering and Applied Science from Dartmouth, and a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics from the University of Pennsylvania.
The investment objective of the Fund is to generate attractive, risk-adjusted returns using a systematic framework that is implemented via machine learning (i.e., artificial intelligence).
This framework effectively corroborates and calibrates publicly and commercially available data impacting markets, companies, brands and sectors across the globe. The Investment Manager believes that the application of machine learning in this context is both novel and reliable as the framework explicitly shifts away from targeting prices, but instead focuses on targeting fundamental outcomes, which are intrinsically more tractable to a forecasting process.
